一、前言胡适(1891-1962)和林语堂(1895-1976)是二十世纪中国自由主义阵营中最知名的两个代表,晚年都终老埋骨于蒋介石(1887-1975)治下的台湾。自从蒋介石日记自2006年由斯坦佛大学胡佛研究所分四批逐年公开之后,胡蒋关系,一时又成了热门的话题。其中蒋在日记中对胡适的评点成了研究者争相引用分析的材料,其结论大致不出:台湾时期
I. Preface Hu Shih (1891-1962) and Lin Yutang (1895-1976) were the two best known representatives of the Chinese liberalist camp in the 20th century. Later in life, both were buried in Taiwan under Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975). Since the Chiang Kai-shek diary was published year after year in four batches by the Hoover Institution of Stanford University in 2006, the relations between Hu and Chiang have for some time become a hot topic.
