The leap of fantasy If modern design has some guiding principle, it is that people are rational, and that their objects are also rational. The items are functional, needed, useful, and nothing more. However, as Freudian theory shows, denying self is impossible and self can not succumb to standardization. Although modernists are struggling to discard their illusions, this forbidden fruit has always been one of the elements of 20th-century culture. The fantastic leaps exhibited by many objects reflect the impact of the art movement over the centuries. The astonishing aspect of the role of fantasy in the field of design in the twentieth century was not only manifest in its universality but also in the way it would familiarize its earlier bold and beyond-normal ideas with a wider audience. Dream has gradually become art
