Over the past 65 years, the Atomic Energy Agency has created more than 60 academicians of both houses and sent tens of thousands of scientists and technicians, and has successively derived or rehabilitated over a dozen backbone units of nuclear industry. Of the 23 science and technology experts who received the “Two Bombs and One Star Medal of Merit,” issued by the State Council and the Central Military Commission, seven of them made meritorious service at the Atomic Energy Agency. On May 19, 1950, the predecessor of the Institute of Atomic Energy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing was established.
