Stein and Leventhal二氏首先于1935年在美国妇产科杂志上发表了“双侧多囊性卵巢并发闭经”的论文,阐述一组综合病征包括闭经、不孕、多毛、肥胖、双侧卵巢增大与包膜增厚,表面呈灰白色似蚌壳。因此又称之为史坦——列文氏综合征(Stein-LeventhalSyndrome)。实际上早在一百多年前就有关于这类症状的文献报告,以后对其病理生理、治疗方法等有过零星阐述,直到1935年史坦——列文对本病作了系统归纳并提出卵巢楔形切除术,可使卵巢功能恢复正常,继后,本病才逐渐受到重视,文献报告日益增多,我国文献
