日照港最年轻的主任工程师、31岁的王文增,自1981年从青岛港湾学校毕业到石臼港(现日照港)翻车系统岗位上以来,就与翻车机结下了不解之缘。十多年来完成技术改造项目30多项,多次荣获交通部、山东省和日照港科技进步成果奖。 日照港采用的翻车机是从英国进口的,也是当今世界上适应车型最多、自动化程度最高的卸车设备之一。可是,这台性能复杂的大型设备有时却不听使唤,投产的头两年,每小时的卸车量不足设计能力的一半。翻车机一停,港口的煤炭卸车系统就陷入瘫痪状态,不但港口生产受阻,也影响铁路运输。技术人员急得团团转,就是查不出毛病出在哪里。王文增看在眼里,急在心头,下决心非摸透这套洋设备的脾性不可。从此,常常看到他不分白天黑夜地蹲在机房里,对着资料查找故障。有时深更半夜出了故障,他也立即骑车赶到现场。就这样,经他手处理的大小故障上千次,为他提出技术改造方案积累了丰富的经验。
