中华基督教妇女节制协会于1920年在上海成立,为世界基督教妇女节制协会的分支。该会深受美国妇女运动影响,承继基督教义中的“节制”理念与纯洁妇女意识,试图通过开展禁止烟酒、兴办慈善和倡导母教三项工作来表达女性诉求,进入公共领域,建立中国女性独特的性别空间。近代民族主义深刻影响了妇女节制协会的活动理念,在其话语体系中妇女的性别属性被赋予高度的政治意涵和鲜明的工具性意义。妇女节制协会的理念和活动既彰显了基督教知识女性的独特追求,也透视出了女性在近代中国社会中的尴尬处境。
The Chinese Christian Women’s Control Society was established in Shanghai in 1920 as a branch of the World Christian Women’s Control Society. Affected by the American women’s movement, the association inherits the concept of “abstinence” and the purity of women in Christian doctrine and attempts to express women’s demands and enter the public sphere by carrying out banning of tobacco and alcohol, establishment of charity and advocacy of the mother-in- Establish a unique gender space for Chinese women. In their discourse system, the gender attributes of women are given a high degree of political connotations and distinctive instrumental meanings. The concept and activities of the Association for the Control of Women both demonstrate the unique pursuit of Christian intellectual women and also reveal the awkward situation of women in modern Chinese society.
