《左传·庄公十年》:“吾视其辙乱,望其旗靡,故逐之。”其中“望其旗靡”之“靡”,《古汉语常用字字典》、新版《辞源》、《汉语成语词典》等都释之为“倒下”。许多散文选注本及中学语文的有关参考书亦如是说。近年有人撰文(见辞书研究编辑部编《疑难字词辨析集》)提出新解,释“靡”为“散乱”。我们认为,以“倒下”或“散乱”释“靡”不甚允当。《左传·宣公十二年》:“吾闻致师者,御靡旌摩垒而还。”此处“靡”字如解作“倒下”或“散乱”,也难惬人意:古代致师的目的在于镇慑敌军气焰、鼓舞本军斗
