美国人十分重视人的独立性和自力更生精神,因此,从婴儿1岁半起就开始培养其自我服务技能。他们认为,自我服务技能的掌握,可以增强婴幼儿的独立性和成功感,可以使婴幼儿和家长双方受益。婴幼儿的自我服务技能包括:系鞋带、穿衣服、扣纽扣、拉开或拉上拉链、洗脸、刷牙、梳头、吃饭、上厕所等等。美国幼教工作者非常强调,任何一个保育机构都要为婴幼儿提供大量的机会,以锻炼他们自我服务的技能,并要求家长密切配合,使婴幼儿的自我服务技能
Americans value human independence and self-reliance and, as a result, start developing their self-service skills from the age of one and a half. They believe that the mastery of self-service skills can enhance the independence and sense of success of infants and young children and benefit both young children and parents. Self-service skills for babies and toddlers include: lacing, dressing, button fastening, zipper opening or zip-up, face washing, brushing, combing hair, eating, restroom and much more. Preschool education workers in the United States strongly emphasize that any childcare institution should provide plenty of opportunities for infants and toddlers to exercise their self-service skills and require parents to work closely together so that the self-serving skills of infants and young children
