Partial-response maximum-likelihood(PRML)technology has been broadly used in current magnetic recording systems,and shows great potential to be applied in the third-generation optical disc systems using blue lasers.In this paper,the basic principle and application of PRML scheme are introduced.The famous PR4 magnetic recording channel has been decribed in details,and the application of PRML for optical disc system has also been discussed.
