According to the survey conducted by the Japan Chemical Fiber Association, the world demand for PTA is estimated to have increased by 7% over 2001 to 240,000 kt by 2002. The center of demand growth is Asia, with a scale of 1 730 kt, an increase of 8% over 2001 and 72% of the world total. Other regions are 4080 kt in North America, Central and South America, accounting for 17% and 2200 in Western Europe, accounting for 9%. The status of major Asian regions is:
