Lin Shu (1852-1924) is a well-known literary translator in modern China. He translated more than 180 foreign novels with elegant and smooth brushwork. His translation has broadened the horizons of modern Chinese and promoted the innovation of Chinese literature. In his more than 20 years of career as a translator, Lin Shu spoke on many occasions about his ideological motives for translating foreign literature. This article attempts to sort out the context of Lin Shu's translation thinking in order to teach in the peer.
