蔡元培先生是我国伟大的教育家,他就任北大校长以后,把北大从培养老爷式的官僚机构,改革成为现代化的大学。他主张学术自由,兼包并容,为学术思想的自由发展,提供了宽松的环境。他登门拜访,请来陈独秀扭任文科学长,又请来鲁迅先生等名师。北大优秀的学术传统是由蔡元培先生创建起来的。蔡元培是最受北大人尊敬的老校长。所以获得首届蔡元培奖是我一生最大的光荣。——徐光宪
After serving as president of Peking University, Cai Yuanpei, a great educator in our country, has transformed Peking University from a model of bureaucratic bureaucracy to a modern university. He advocated academic freedom, and inclusiveness and accommodation, for the free development of academic thought, provides a relaxed environment. When he came to visit Chen Duxiu, he invited Ren Wei, a liberal arts dean, and invited Mr. Lu Xun and other famous teachers. Peking University’s outstanding academic tradition was created by Mr. Cai Yuanpei. Cai Yuanpei is the most respected President of the North adults.
