珠峰的传说据传在四五千万年以前,珠峰一带还是一片茫茫的大海。后来,突然窜来一群妖魔,搅得海怒林毁,一片荒凉恐怖。一日,东方飘来一朵五彩祥云,化作了五位法力无边的女神,她们劈波斩浪,把妖魔镇在雪山之下,众女神喝令大海退下,使周围变成了森林、良田和牧场。姐妹们变成了喜马拉雅山脉的五座高峰。最高的山峰就是最娇美、最勇敢的三妹的化身。当地民众亲切地称她为“珠穆朗玛”,藏语意为,“第三女神”。
