Image oil painting is a form of painting formed by the assimilation and transformation of western oil painting with its own cultural psychology and aesthetic system. Its creation focuses on the combination of “Yi” and “Xiang”, emphasizing “Yi” as “Xiang” and “Xiang” as “Yi”. Thus it can be seen that the representation and connotation of the imagery coincide with the “” meaning “rhyme ” style pursued by Chinese painting. As early as the early 20th century, Chinese painting artists Liu Haisu, Lin Fengmian and Wu Dayu tried to reform the western oil paintings just introduced into our country. It can be said that the rise of image oil paintings is closely linked with the original intention of the older artists to carry forward Chinese painting art It is the inevitable product of the artist’s thinking on the art issue and the constant exploration in practice. In this article, I will elaborate the influence of Chinese painting art on the formal language of imagery from three aspects: pen, shape and color.
