当从地震图上测量、计算得到地震震中距△°及方位角α之后,单台求震中经纬度,因若用公式算,要查多次三角函数表,又要进行多位数的多次乘、除法,既繁又慢,所以台站观测人员一般喜欢采用吴尔弗网图解法求得震中,这是既方便又可靠的一种方法.然而由于电子计算机在七十年代进入第四代,大规模集成电路的广泛采用,微型计算器的问世,已使台站震中测算问题有了新变化.用计算器计算地震震中,反过来比用吴尔弗网法更方便可靠了,其一,用计算器计算三角函数值及乘除法速度极快,仅在指头一按之际即可完成;其二,精度明显提高.要计算结果达到百分之一度毫不困难,而吴尔弗网的精度很难高于十分之五度.因此,在这几年的大震速报及其国际资料交换中,我们已完全用计算器替代了吴尔弗网.加快了计算速度,提高了分析质量.
