The Government of Ghana has established a scientific research center for botanicals and assisted in the preparation of preparations for the Ghana herbal pharmacopoeia. The Government of Ghana also intends to recognise the formal role of traditional doctors in primary health care and use traditional knowledge to develop alternative drugs to reduce the consumption of commonly used drugs. At the current meeting on the research and development of botanicals that was chaired by the International Science Foundation, the WHO, UNESCO and the East Africa and Central Africa Natural Products Research Center, the Minister of Health, Sarpong said:
