西峰区地处我省东部,坐落在世界黄土层积淀最深厚的董志塬腹地,是陕、甘、宁“金三角”区一块充满生机的热土和战略要冲,是中东部地区联结西北地区的纽带,是庆阳市政治、经济、文化、商贸中心。全区总面积996平方公里,下辖7个乡镇、3个街道办事处,人口34.8万人,其中城市人口约12.6万人。西峰素有“陇东粮仓”的美称。境内地势平坦,土地肥沃,气候宜人,物阜民丰。粮食作物、经济作物、农副产品种类齐全,品质上乘,在农业资源、特色产品生产、加工、出口方面蕴藏着巨大潜力。石油资源丰富,沙石、粘土、矿泉水等优质矿种分布广泛,开发价值极高。道路交通网络四通八达,银(川)西(安)公路纵贯全境,省道202横穿南北。电信网络形成了以西峰为中心的物流传输网、营业网、金融网和信息网络,国际、国内长途交换实现了数字化无缝隙覆盖。西峰独具黄土高原风情,商贸繁荣,城乡经济和城市建设日新月异,一年一度的香包民俗文化节、金秋果品节、商品贸易会,既有深厚的文化底蕴,又有良好的经济效益,受到各界客商的青睐。2008年,全区国内生产总值达到58.52亿元(其中石油21.25亿元),财政收入突破3亿元大关,城镇居民人均可支配收入9938.72元,农民人均纯收入3166.68元。
