The parasitic nematode Ditylenchus destructor is an important pathogen for many crops and vegetables. The results of the in-pan assay in this study showed that the volatiles produced by B. subtilis BL02 and G8 strongly inhibited D. destructor (insecticidal activity up to 100% for 24h). After volatiles treatment, most of the nematodes in 1 ~ 12h activity gradually weakened, completely stopped activity after 24h. The compounds were identified by solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The volatiles included alkanes, alcohols, esters, ketones, acids, amines, oximes, phenols and heterocycles. This study provides a valuable reference for the development and utilization of microbial active volatiles and predicts the potential of bacterial volatiles in the future biological control of plant nematode diseases.
