天棉一号是我县白茅湖原种场从上海市原种场引进岱字棉15号单株,经过株行、株系鉴定扩大繁育而成。从1972年起开始推广示范,六年来皮棉产量一般都高于鄂光棉。其主要优点是苗期抗逆性较强,株型紧凑,伏期上桃快,吐絮集中,衣分率高,品质好,较早熟,适于两熟耕作。我县准备扩大繁殖以替代当前推广品种。一、试验、示范和推广经过1971年在白茅湖原种场等四个点进行品种比较试验,1972—1974年参加全县八个点联合品种比较试验,表现增产稳定,籽棉、皮棉亩产均列第一位。1973年加入荆州地区11个点棉花品种区域试验,籽棉、皮棉产量均居第一位。1974年参加全省棉花品种区域试验,七个新品种中,籽棉、皮棉产量居第二位。1974年确定为我县接班品种,决
