1966年3月邢台地区相继发生两次强烈地震(3月8日6.8级;3月22日7.2级)。两次地震给该地区的工业设施、农田水利基本建设、民用住房等各类工程造成了不同程度的破坏。就工程的防震和抗震而言,从地震地质和工程地质的角度,强震效应可以概括为强震地面破坏效应和强震振动破坏效应。前者是指地震作用下形成的各类岩土体的地面破坏而导致各类工程的破坏,这种破坏往往是由特定的地质条件所决定的,多半是建筑物的场地地基或斜坡失稳等原因引起不同程度的破坏。后者是直接由地震力造成各类建筑物的所谓振动破坏,在这类振动效应中,由于各种地质条件和因素的差异而造成地震动
