A European large-scale cross-sectional study published in “Diabetes Care” found that diabetes-related autoimmune antibodies were present in nearly 10% of adults with new-onset diabetes. Some patients with autoimmune diabetes do not require insulin therapy at the time of diagnosis and although they tend to be younger and thinner, not all patients show absolute clinical characteristics in patients with autoimmune-negative type 2 diabetes . Only by screening antibodies, especially GADA, can be clearly resolved. Of the 6,156 enrolled patients, those aged 30-70 years (mean 54.4 years) did not surpass 5 years after diag- nosis (mean 2.2 years). The majority (84.6%) were white and 58.5% were men. These patients came from 9 European countries from 2004 to 2007
