Peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase are widely present in plants as an oxidoreductase. When the plant is susceptible, its enzyme activity changes rapidly. In some researchers’ experiments (Daly 1971, Batra et al. 1975) showed a significant increase in peroxidase activity of resistant cultivars compared to susceptible cultivars. They think this is a protective response of plants against pathogenic bacteria, which enhances plant resistance to pathogenic bacteria. In others, the opposite result was obtained, in which the susceptible varieties had significantly higher enzyme activity than the resistant varieties. They argue that this increase in enzyme activity is simply a biochemical symptom that the plant responds to in the body’s physiological metabolic processes after being attacked by pathogenic bacteria
