防御电子学专家们对毫米波的潜力一直寄托着很大的,希望,以期改进许多武器系统的工作能力。因为据说毫米波系统比普通微波(厘米波)雷达能提供更高的精度,比电光(EO)(波长为0至15微米)探测器更不易受恶劣气候条件的影响,因此它在雷达、导弹制导以及通讯中会有许多军事用途。本文对这一部分电磁波谱所特有的性能进行研究,并探讨其可能的军事用途,以力图确定目前出现的毫米波技术和器件是否真正预示着技术上的重大突破。
Defense electronics experts have long placed great hopes for millimeter-wave power in the hope of improving the capabilities of many weapons systems. Because millimeter-wave systems are said to provide higher accuracy than ordinary microwave (centimeter-wave) radars, they are less susceptible to harsh climatic conditions than electro-optic (EO) (0 to 15 micron wavelength) There are many military uses in guidance and communications. This article examines the unique properties of this part of the electromagnetic spectrum and explores its possible military uses in an effort to determine whether the millimeter-wave technologies and devices currently in existence really signal a major technological breakthrough.
