对话式汉字智能终端是一个面向人机对话的微型汉字信息处理系统,也可称为对话式汉字信息处理机。它由交互作用汉字显示器(带有光笔和键盘)、汉字针式打印机、汉字文字发生器(字库),软盘和微处理机等部分构成,样机已在1981年1月研制完成。这一系统具有进行汉字输入、汉字输出和汉字文件编辑和存储等功能。它可以作为一个独立的办公室计算机使用(或叫作“中文电脑”);也可以同计算机系统相联,作为汉字终端使用。与一般的“中文电脑”相比,该系统有以下特点:
