本文选自英国美学家、艺术批评家彼得·福勒的论文集《澳大利亚的替罪羊》,(西澳大学出版社,1986年,佩斯).这里节译的是作者在佩斯的讲座《艺术与后工业主义》的后半部分.在前半部分,作者主要谈澳大利亚风景画及其对欧洲中世纪以来的田园风光传统的继承.并与英国和欧洲的现代主义艺术进行比较,进而批评了工业文明带来的弊端.作者在讲座的后半部分探讨了西方70、80年代后工业化时期的艺术现象,特别是工业文明对田园风光和传统文化的破坏,从而肯定了风景画所蕴藏的现代人的乌托邦幻想。
This article is taken from a British sculptor and aesthetic critic Peter Fowler’s “Scapegoat of Australia,” (University of Western Australia Press, Perth, 1986), which is the author’s lecture on Pace, Industrialism. "In the first half, the author mainly talks about Australian landscapes and their succession to pastoral traditions of the Middle Ages in Europe, compares them with the modernist arts in Britain and Europe, and then criticizes the industrial civilization In the second part of the lecture, the author explores the artistic phenomena in the post-industrialization period of the West in the 1970s and the 1980s, especially the industrial civilization’s destruction of pastoral scenery and traditional culture, thus affirming the modern utopian fantasy .
