It has been previously reported in the literature that interleukin-1 (IL-1) is associated with preterm birth due to intrauterine infection but its role in normal spontaneous delivery is yet to be confirmed. In this study, decidual cells were used to study the relationship between IL-1 and prostaglandin (PG) during labor. The decidual cells originated from the membranes of normal spontaneous delivery (NVD, n = 4) and selective cesarean section (ECS, n = 7). These women have not used anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, etc., no signs of premature birth or intrauterine infection, vaginal bacterial culture in addition to the normal flora but the rest were negative. Deciduals were treated by two-step digestion followed by addition of hyaluronidase, collagenase and deoxyribonuclease, and density-gradient purification of the stroma
