While wireless and fixed-line operators have standards-based controversies and fundamentally different approaches to IMS, their supporters believe the technology will break out this year. IMS technology has come to a crossroads after several years of uncertainty about standards and compatibility. Operators cut their costs and embrace the promise of next-generation networks to stimulate people to accept it, but the lack of application has prevented its large-scale deployment. However, many supporters of IMS maintain that IMS will thrive this year on deployment already deployed by fixed and mobile operators in Asia, Europe and the United States.
