In the hometown of Yunnan Peacock, I met Yang Liping, who just won the fourth Lotus Prize. This award marks the highest achievement of the Chinese dance profession and honors her large-scale original dance collection “Yunnan Image.” From “Peacock Princess” and “Spirit of the Sparrow” to “Two Trees” and “Daughter Country” ... Yang Liping left the beautiful impression of “dancing genie” in people’s hearts. Behind the naive, modest language demeanor, is inherently awe-inspiring and ethereal. This is a peacock whose wings are temporarily converging. She talks to you face to face, but it makes you feel her soul is rising to an unknown height. Dance is her language, the root of this language, tied in Yunnan. Yang Liping said: “People live only two states: dancing, or not dancing.”
