2003年是著名的“黄河象”发现三十周年。“黄河象”仍然是迄今世界上最大的象,已经被收入小学课本。谷祖纲教授是兰州大学著名的地质古生物学家,是目前健在的少数几位参与“黄河象”发掘过程的科学家之一。今天,我们请谷祖纲教授回忆30年前发掘“黄河象”的艰难过程,目的在于让读者了解“黄河象”的发掘始末和隐藏在它背后的艰辛,从而更加珍惜这国宝级的化石。“黄河象”标本正在北京自然博物馆展出。
2003 is the thirtieth anniversary of the discovery of the “Yellow River Elephant.” “Yellow River Elephant” is still the largest image in the world so far and has been included in primary school textbooks. Professor Gu Zugang is a famous geologist and paleontologist at Lanzhou University and is one of the few scientists currently involved in the Excavation of the Yellow River Elephant. Today, we invite Professor Gu Zugang to recall the difficult process of unearthing the “Yellow River Elephant” 30 years ago. The purpose of this article is to let readers know more about the excavated “Yellow River Elephant” and the hidden dangers hidden behind it, so as to cherish this national treasure fossil even more. The “Yellow River Elephant” specimen is on display at the Beijing Museum of Natural History.
