This paper begins with an overview of different criteria for evaluating process technology for filter media used in continuous cake filtration. After the chapter focuses on the quality of the filter media to judge one of the main criteria - the separation effect. A series of laboratory and semi-industrial tests with stone coal and iron concentrates are presented. Single-fiber filter cloths with different pore sizes and braided structures were used in these experiments. Then examine the filter cloth resistance, the ability to form a filter cake, filter cake can reach the residual moisture, dehydration gas requirements. A preliminary conclusion from the continuous filtration test with a cylinder filter is that there is a risk of clogging, especially when the pores of the filter cloth are ultrafine. At the same time, it has been shown that the use of a very fine filter cloth in the process of cake making it possible to obtain a high filtration capacity without having to worry about the limited shortcomings caused by the fine pores. This conclusion can be extended to the field of microporous membrane filtration. The precondition is that the characteristics of the filter cloth and the suspension are adapted to the operating parameters of the filter unit.
