On December 16, 1991, the 7th meeting of the Supreme Soviet of Kazakhstan passed the “Law on National Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, thus becoming the last declared independence of the 15 republics of the former Soviet Union. This article intends to make some remarks on the events that took place in the field of foreign economic ties in the year after Kazakhstan’s independence.
