This article discusses asymmetric maximum-likelihood receivers for low-angle tracking radars (based on the Gram-Schmidt standard orthogonal method) where the direct and specular multipath components of the radar echoes can strike the array antenna in any direction. Using Fich’s F statistic, the most likely wavenumber of the incident array can be determined. The processor can be used in situations where multiple targets need to be tracked over the radar scan range. The estimator described in this paper can also be used to determine the general problem of multiple sinusoidal frequencies in Gaussian white noise.
