At present, anti-ship missiles are shifting from being traditional anti-ship missions to being capable of attacking coastal and land targets. The first such attack was launched by Iraq, which used “Flying Fish” missiles to attack Iran's oil storage facilities on the shore during the Iran-Iraq war from 1980 to 1988. The Ideal Marine Versatile Surface Guided Weapon (SSGW), in addition to spotting and hitting targets on the ship, is also capable of detecting and destroying land-based targets. Land-based targets include coastal missile bases, surface-to-air missile launchers, radar stations, large buildings and airports, especially those parked in open air and non-sturdy facilities. Past examples show that anti-ship missiles need at least some improvements in warheads, and most such missiles now carry between 250 and 500
