对科技情报工作这一概念中的“科”字,也就是对于“科学”这个词,一般解释成自然科学,并按此办事。而按其本意来说,科学是反映自然、社会、思维等的客观规律的分科的知识体系。研究自然界各种物质和现象的科学是为自然科学,而研究社会现象的科学则是社会科学。科学和自然科学并不是同义词,按照图书情报界的术语,它是自然科学的上位类,自然科学和社会科学都是科学的一个组成部分。这样的解释虽然侧重于语义,但这是“科学”一词的真正含义所在。
The word “science” in the concept of science and technology intelligence work, that is, the word “science”, is generally interpreted as natural science and serves the purpose. By its very nature, science is a sub-system of knowledge that reflects the objective laws of nature, society and thinking. The science that studies all kinds of matter and phenomena in the natural world is the natural science, and the science that studies the social phenomenon is the social science. Science and the natural sciences are not synonymous. According to the terms of the library and information science community, it is a supernatural class of the natural sciences. Both the natural and social sciences are an integral part of science. While such explanations focus on semantics, this is the true meaning of the word “science.”
