The flood in the Yangtze River Basin caused tremendous losses to the lives and property of the Chinese people. Economists believe that this year’s floods in China will affect the national economic growth by at least 0.5 percentage points. Experts estimate that the direct economic losses caused by floods will amount to over 200 billion yuan. According to the latest statistics, as of the beginning of August, more than 240 million people in 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country suffered varying degrees of floods, collapsed more than 17 million houses and damaged more than 21.5 million hectares of crops.
