Some time ago, I went to a section of Ming City Wall on the east side of Beijing Railway Station to look at it. To repair it, people are looking for bricks everywhere. I saw an old gentleman pulling four bricks from a tricycle himself. It is said that a brick weighs 24kg. As a symbol, the city wall has played a deterrent role; as a fortification, the city wall has protected people’s lives and property. The city has its historical continuity. Unless irresistible natural disasters and man-made disasters are left, some traces of the old city should be retained. The former temples, workshops, courtyards, and wells and drains, even if there are only stumps, represent a certain history. I was born in Rome and this is considered an antique city. I think that Rome enjoys a reputation because of the uniqueness of the ancient city and its houses are mostly medieval.
