民用和机械工程国常见的问题是:普通应变传感器无法测量大于几个平方厘米区域的应变。为了解决这一问题,英国ERA技术公司设计并生产出一种采用保偏光纤的实验性“集成式”应变传感器。它能检测分布于数十米长度上高达0.6%的应变,而且对温度变化相当敏感。本实验性传感器在实验室得到了评价,并用于测量玻璃纤维耐压容器周期性的应变。据发现,这种传感器对于至少4000的微应变(长度增加0.4%)有线性反应,并且滞后现象可忽略不计。
A common problem in civil and mechanical engineering countries is that ordinary strain gauges can not measure strains greater than a few square centimeters. To solve this problem, ERA Technologies of the United Kingdom designed and produced an experimental “integrated” strain sensor with PM fiber. It detects strain as high as 0.6% over a few tens of meters and is quite sensitive to temperature changes. The experimental sensor was evaluated in the laboratory and used to measure the periodic strain of glass fiber pressure vessels. It has been found that this sensor has a linear response to microstrain of at least 4000 (an increase of 0.4% in length) and the hysteresis is negligible.
