由江西省采茶剧团演出、凌鹤同志改編的《南瓜記》,是根据流行在江西南昌一带的民間传說加以整理的。《南瓜記》以惩恶揚善作为主題思想。在我国,以惩恶揚善作为主題的传統戏曲剧目是很多的,类似題材的剧目大体可以分为两种。一种是描写綠林好汉或者是农民起义的英雄人物,他們路見不平,拔刀相助,他們的英雄行为反映了或者代表了劳动人民的利益,并且正面或侧面的反映了一定历史时期的阶級斗爭;另外一种是封建社会統治集团中的比較开明、正义的人物,他們惩恶揚善虽然主观意图是为了維护法紀,巩固封建統冶,但是他們的这种作为也有利于人民群众,因而他們正义的事迹往往也能流传到今天。
