正常人的足底有一个纵弓和一个横弓,它是由足部的跟骨、跗骨和趾骨等借韧带牢固相连,构成凸向上方的弓型,称为足弓。足弓使人的足成为一个具有弹性的“三角架”,能稳固地站立于任何高低不平的地面,还可以很好地保护足底的血管,使神经免受压迫。此外,足弓各骨之间的韧带和关节还允许足弓有一定的活动能力。所以,它不仅是“弓”,且更是“弹簧”,它可使地面作用于身体的冲击力减小。可以这么说,足弓就像汽车上的减震器。
