This paper reports for the first time the average life expectancy and the amount of larvae of the adult snails infected by artificial infection in the mountainous areas of Yunnan Province under field conditions. Thirteen young snails were infected in August 1987 and 135 positive snails were isolated for the first time after three months. The survival rate from the first larvae to June to September in the following year was 27.4, 16.3, 13.3 and 11.9%, respectively. The average laxivorous quantities were 139.9, 29.6, 39.2 and 75 respectively. The average life expectancy of positive snails was 171.6 days. The average survival time of each positive snail larvae was 673. The local positive snail average transmission period estimated up to more than six months. This mountainous areas schistosomiasis epidemic factors quantitative analysis and prevention and control strategies have their reference value.
