Objective: To explore the role of specialist nurses in the management of insulin pump external care in diabetic patients. Methods: Fifty patients with diabetes who were discharged from the second hospital in Shaoxing City with insulin pump were randomly divided into control group and observation group. Patients in the observation group were arranged after the discharge of specialist nurses for disease and insulin pump guidance and explanation, the control group patients according to their actual situation of out-patient follow-up. Results: The control group had significantly lower knowledge of insulin pump and disease than the observation group (P <0.05). The incidence of complications associated with insulin pump in the control group was significantly higher than that in the observation group (P <0.05). The glycemic control in the control group was significantly lower than that in the observation group (P <0.05). Conclusion: Arrangement of specialist nurses for follow-up management of patients helps to improve the patient’s understanding of insulin pump and disease-related knowledge to enhance the control of glucose metabolism and reduce the incidence of complications.
