Melbourne-based Australasian Petroleum Co., BHP Oil, will conduct an 8-year exploration project offshore India. A 25-year production cooperation agreement between its subsidiary, BHP Petroleum and the National Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC), covers 27,700 km2 away from most unexplored areas on the west coast of India. This is the first contract between BHP Petroleum and the Indian government and the National Oil and Natural Gas Commission. This 8-year plan will begin with the reprocessing of seismic data obtained by the National Oil and Gas Commission, along with seismic surveys and new drilling programs. Poter Willcox, general manager of BHP, said: "This contract represents another company plan that is currently being explored in 18 different countries around the world.
