石花菜是提取琼胶的重要原料,琼胶的用途广,需求量大,经济效益高,植物体呈紫红色、直立丛生,分枝羽状扁平,小技互生或对生,藻体高10—20厚米,最大可达30厘米。石花菜属暖温性多年生海藻、为顶端生长,其繁殖方法为多种多样,主要用孢子繁殖(四分孢子及果孢子),匍匐枝繁殖及营养枝繁殖等。当前,在发展石花菜栽培事业中,存在一个主要问题是苗种缺乏,而石花菜苗种繁殖的最佳方法,人们还正在探索之中,到目前为止国内外成功的报导尚未见到。
