大学英语选修课是对学生进行通识教育的有效途径。本文从通识教育的内涵及其与文化素质教育的关系出发,结合大学英语课程的发展轨迹,通过对部分高校大学英语选修课开设现状的分析,认为所开设的课程与通识教育的基本目标是相符的,但在体现通识教育“把培养完整的人放在首位”的理念上却相去甚远,同时课程的单一性也不利于学生获得一个合理的能力结构。据此,笔者提出通识教育中大学英语选修课的开设应该充分体现中国文化素质教育的特点,用中国元典文化树立学生核心的价值观,以ESP为主线,促进学生的全面发展。
College English elective courses is an effective way to conduct general education for students. Based on the connotation of general education and its relationship with cultural quality education, this paper, based on the development of college English course, analyzes the current situation of elective courses of college English in some universities and believes that the basic goals of the courses offered and general education Is consistent, but far from reflecting the notion of general education “putting the cultivation of complete people first”. At the same time, the unity of the curriculum is not conducive to students to obtain a reasonable structure of ability. Therefore, I propose that the establishment of college English elective courses in general education should fully reflect the characteristics of Chinese cultural quality education, establish the core values of students with Chinese classical culture, and take ESP as the main line to promote the all-round development of students.
