On July 19, 1978, two crew members of a fishing boat died after touching the toxic gas stored in shrimp cabins. An autopsy showed epiphyseal edema and pulmonary congestion, another example was pulmonary and visceral hyperemia and focal myocardial hemorrhage. These changes were consistent with upper respiratory irritation or hypoxia. The cabin has a strong ammonia, sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide odor, and corrupt shrimp is the same. 32 similar deaths have been confirmed since 1970. The authors argue that during the hot summer fishing of shrimp, the captured fish and shrimp are stored in the unventilated cabin due to the spoiled fish and shrimp in the bilge water of the boat
