Lotus, also known as lotus flower, belongs to Nelumboaceae Nelumbo. It is not only one of the most famous Chinese flowers, but also a national flower of India and Vietnam. It has a long history and is widely cultivated and utilized worldwide. Origin of the lotus is much earlier than the birth of mankind, first appeared in the mid-latitude of the Early Cretaceous Laurasian, a hundred million years ago, and then spread to North America and Eurasia in the Late Cretaceous and gradually entered South America.
