Rabbits were used as animal models to observe the effect of dexamethasone on diaphragmatic function. The results showed that intravenous injection of dexamethasone 2.5mg × 7d, no significant impact on animal diaphragm muscle contractility; but can significantly reduce the animal diaphragmatic endurance. The endurance time of experimental group and control group were respectively 26.4 ± 1.8min and 37.4 ± 1.8min (P <0.05). After intravenous injection of dexamethasone 2mg × 14d, the contractility and endurance of diaphragmatic muscle in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group. At the same time also found that acute and chronic injury, the recovery of the contractility of the animal diaphragm after fatigue are not affected. Tip dexamethasone on the diaphragm function may have its potential clinical significance.
