天柱县位于贵州省东部,与湖南省新晃、芷江等县接壤,是川渝黔通往两广、江浙的重要门户,素有“黔东第一关”之称。全县总面积2201平方公里,辖16个乡镇315个行政村、11个居委会,总人口40.71万,以侗、苗为主的少数民族人口占98%以上。天柱物华天宝,资源优厚。沅江上游清水江流经天柱5个乡镇,水运通达洞庭湖、九江、芜湖、南京、上海等地。
