According to figures released by the French National Institute of Chemical Industry (UIC), the trade surplus of French pesticides in 2000 was 1.153 billion francs (162 million U.S. dollars), a 25% drop from 1999. UIC said exports in 2000 amounted to 10.636 billion francs (+ 0.6%), of which 58% were exported to the European Union. Exports were significantly lower than in 1997 and 1998 as the industrial strategy was focused on the domestic market. .
