Excessive rainfall can hinder road construction and crude oil transportation during oilfield development. But there is an improved horizontal drilling technology that can solve this problem. Compared to conventional methods, this new technology not only reduces drilling, completion and equipment costs by up to 50% but also provides operational advantages and protects the environment. This technique requires drilling a horizontal single well of large radius at a well accessible surface and then drilling a supplemental horizontal well at a temporary mine accessible only in winter to allow communication with the main well. These branches draw on oil from the main shaft that is permanently in and out of the ground. This technology can be used not only in swampy areas but also in areas that are not easily accessible, environmentally sensitive, land-ownership-related and potentially future-generation EOR technologies
